Nasya Therapy – Nasal & Head Treatment

1 hr, 15 mins
$290

Nasya therapy is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment where warm, herb-infused oil is gently applied through your nostrils. The name comes from the Sanskrit word for nose, and classical Ayurvedic texts describe the nose as the doorway to the head.

Your Nasya treatment begins with a soothing massage of your head, face, neck and shoulders, then an Abhyanga massage across your whole body. Lying back with your head slightly tilted, you then receive a few warm drops of medicated oil in each nostril and breathe in softly. We use Anu Thailam and a nourishing herbal oil chosen according to your treatment plan. Your practitioner finishes with light strokes over your forehead and cheeks before you clear your throat with a warm saltwater gargle.

How Nasya treatment can help you:
  • People often choose Nasya therapy to support easier breathing and a calmer, clearer head.
  • Ayurvedic tradition uses it for concerns like sinus congestion, headaches and dry nasal passages.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nasya therapy the same as a neti pot?

No, Nasya therapy and a neti pot work in different ways. A neti pot rinses your nasal passages with a stream of warm salt water. Nasya treatment uses a small amount of warmed herbal oil, meant to nourish and soothe the tissues rather than flush them.

A simple wellness booking usually does not require one. But we recommend an Ayurvedic doctor’s consultation if you have recurrent sinus problems, migraines, chronic respiratory symptoms, or if you are a child, an older client or have a significant medical history.

Nasya treatment can suit some children and older adults, but it depends on the individual. Classical Ayurvedic guidance advises against stronger therapeutic forms for children under seven and adults over eighty. A gentler daily form called Pratimarsha Nasya is traditionally considered suitable across a wider age range.

For children and older clients, your Ayurvedic practitioner will review your health history and may adjust the oil, dose or massage pressure. If you are pregnant or managing a medical condition, speak with your GP before booking.

Most clients notice mild, short-lived effects after Nasya treatment. These can include temporary sneezing, a runny nose, a mild taste in your throat or brief nasal irritation

What is not expected is significant pain, difficulty breathing, persistent bleeding, a severe headache or worsening symptoms. Report any of these to us immediately.

Yes, you will likely notice some oil reaching the back of your throat. This is normal since your nose and throat connect.

Your practitioner will ask you to spit out the oil and any loosened mucus rather than swallow it. A warm saltwater gargle afterward clears the taste quickly.

Call the centre before you come. We can often treat mild, non-feverish congestion but may postpone or adjust your treatment if you have an acute infection, fever, severe blockage, bleeding or feel unwell.

If you wake up unwell on the day of your appointment, let us know, and we will reschedule.

How often you have Nasya therapy depends on your goals and your Ayurvedic practitioner’s advice. Some enjoy a single session as a seasonal wellness ritual, while others benefit from a short series or from Nasya as part of a Panchakarma program.

Your practitioner will adjust your plan as you respond, because no single schedule suits everyone.

Most clients can drive and return to work after Nasya treatment, though it helps to allow a little quiet time afterward. Many find the treatment deeply relaxing, so you may feel drowsy at first.

We suggest resting in the clinic for a few minutes before driving. If you feel light-headed, wait until it passes and keep the rest of your day gentle.

Ayurvedic guidance suggests avoiding these for the rest of the day:

  • Dust, smoke and strong sun exposure
  • Alcohol and heavy or hard-to-digest meals
  • Daytime napping
  • Strenuous exercise or long, tiring trips
  • Cold air and drinks
  • Washing your hair

You can book Nasya treatment at our Bondi Junction clinic through our Fresha page or by calling us at +61 410 315 465. Our team has cared for the local community since 2011, and we look forward to welcoming you for Nasya in Sydney.
