From the moment you step in the door you feel relaxed. I had a head and shoulder massage, a foot massage, followed by a body massage. All done with warm massage oils and took about an hour and a half, followed by a soothing cup of herbal tea in the relaxation room.

Highly recommend this place if you want to escape from the outside world for a few hours, and experience an amazing massage at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Pizhichil called the royal treatment?

Ayurveda has long regarded Pizhichil as one of its most luxurious therapies, given how much warm medicated oil it uses, the continuous flow involved and the level of hands-on attention from your therapist. Historically, only royalty received this kind of elaborate care.

Pizhichil pours warm herbal oil over your entire body while your therapist massages you, whereas Shirodhara sends a steady stream of oil onto your forehead alone. Both treatments run deeply relaxing, though they target different areas and rely on different techniques.

No, Abhyanga works warm oil into your skin through rhythmic massage strokes. Pizhichil uses a far larger volume of oil, poured repeatedly over your body while massage continues alongside it, giving you a more enveloping experience.

Traditional Pizhichil sometimes calls for two therapists working together. In our practice, our trained therapists handle the treatment fully on their own, alternating smoothly between pouring the oil and massaging you.

You might notice mild perspiration from the warmth, though Pizhichil is not a steam treatment. Let your therapist know immediately if you feel overheated, light-headed or uncomfortable and they will adjust the temperature.

Because of the heat, oil, positioning and full-body time involved, we generally do not book Pizhichil during pregnancy without approval from both your maternity care provider and our Ayurvedic doctor.

Not necessarily if you are booking purely for relaxation and are otherwise in good health; we recommend an Ayurvedic doctor’s consultation if you have a diagnosed condition, chronic pain, neurological symptoms, take regular medication or are unsure if the treatment is right for you.

You undress only as far as you feel comfortable, and careful draping covers you throughout the treatment. You can keep your underwear on, and your therapist uncovers only the area they are treating.

Yes, Pizhichil uses a generous amount of oil, and some will likely reach your hair. Wear old, loose clothing, avoid important plans right after your session, and leave the oil on as long as advised before showering.

You technically can, but we do not recommend it. The treatment leaves you deeply relaxed and quite oily, so you will likely want to rest afterward. Whenever possible, book your session when you have no work or other commitments afterward.
