Ayurvedic Diet Cleanses For The Summer – Green Smoothies

There are many cleanses that you can do to help rid you body of toxins, make you feel light and give you vitality, strength and energy. Ayurvedic diet cleanses are unique in the sense that they are very gentle on your body and very rarely will they cause any averse side effects. One of the simple ways to cleanse you body is to incorporate more green vegetables in your diet, as green vegetables are extracting in nature. This means that they help to extract toxins from your cells, organs and tissues. In Ayurveda we generally recommend lightly cooked or sauteed green vegetables with every meal. These green vegetables include kale, spinach, chard, green beet leaves, broccoli, cabbage, celery and others. It should be noted that certain types of vegetables are better for certain types of doshas.

Increasing the amount of these types of vegetables will help increase the extracting process and cleanse your body more. Introducing more raw vegetables can be used for more a intensive cleansing process but should be done so under the guidance of one of our Ayurvedic Doctors. Remember, raw foods are better in the summer as they are cooling but too many raw foods, especially raw vegetables can increase your Vata and cause you to become Vata provoked. If you are going to use more raw vegetables as part of your cleansing procedure, then below are a few green smoothie combinations that are great and can be used as part of your Ayurvedic diet. If you feel that you are ready for a green smoothie cleanse, which again is more intense, we would recommend replacing one of your meals with a green smoothie for 3 to 5 days and see how you feel.

You might want to bring yourself back to eating cooked foods and vegetables especially in the cooler months of the year. The other thing you could try is using nutritional supplements with some water or juice. Here are some vegetable smoothie combinations we recommend:

Super  Veggie Green Smoothie: Kale, Spinach, Celery, Cucumber, Fresh Ginger and Cilantro

Fruit & Veggie Green Smoothie: Kale, Green Apple, Pineapple and Fresh Ginger

Earthy Green Smoothie: Beets (include leaves), Carrots, Celery, Fennel (the plant), Cucumber and Fresh Turmeric (if available)

Be sure to mix the right quantities that are right for you and use only a small finger size or piece of ginger/turmeric. Also, make sure to mix your smoothies with sufficient pure water. You can sweeten the taste by adding fresh unpasteurized honey. Another way to cleanse is to consume only specific foods and and recipes that are specific to reducing a particular dosha that may be causing you to become imbalanced. It is best to have a consultation with our Ayurvedic Doctors to help you with your specific needs.
