Nasya – Nasal & Head Treatment

1 hr, 15 mins
$290

Description: Your Nasya treatment focuses on your head, neck and sinuses. It usually begins with a massage of your head, face, neck and shoulders, then moves to the careful application of a small amount of warmed herbal oil through your nostrils. We use Anu Tailam and a nourishing herbal oil chosen according to your treatment plan.

Your therapist guides you through each step of the process, and you have time to rest once the treatment ends.

Best for these ailments:
  • Often used for recurrent sinus congestion, nasal dryness, head and neck tension, a heavy or foggy feeling in the head, seasonal respiratory discomfort and some types of headache.
  • Persistent or severe symptoms should be medically assessed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nasya?

Nasya treatment is an Ayurvedic technique that delivers a small, controlled amount of herbal oil or another prescribed preparation through your nostrils. Ayurveda has traditionally used it to support the areas of your body above the shoulders.

Not really. A neti pot rinses your nasal passages with saline water. At the same time, Nasya uses a much smaller amount of herbal oil applied as one step in a guided treatment that usually follows massage and preparation.

You might sneeze, clear your throat or cough a little as the oil moves through your nasal passages, and that is normal. You can breathe through your mouth throughout, and your therapist uses only a small amount of oil. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell your therapist immediately.

A mild herbal taste is common as a small amount of oil drains toward your throat and usually fades quickly. Your therapist guides you on when to spit out or clear any excess.

You might notice temporary sneezing, a runny nose, a mild taste in your throat or brief nasal irritation; these are expected. What is not expected is significant pain, difficulty breathing, persistent bleeding, a severe headache or worsening symptoms. Report any of these to us immediately.

Call the centre before you come. We can often treat mild, non-feverish congestion but may postpone or adjust your treatment if you have an acute infection, fever, severe blockage, bleeding or feel unwell.

A simple wellness booking usually does not require one. But we recommend an Ayurvedic doctor’s consultation if you have recurrent sinus problems, migraines, chronic respiratory symptoms, or if you are a child, an older client or have a significant medical history.

Most people can drive and return to their normal day, though it helps to allow a little quiet time afterward. You might feel deeply relaxed or keep clearing mucus briefly, so try to avoid strenuous work if possible.

Frequency depends on your symptoms and what you are treating. Some people are satisfied with a single seasonal session, while others benefit from a short series or from Nasya as part of a Panchakarma program. Our doctor can create a schedule that fits you.

Nasya can be adapted for both, but age, frailty, medications and respiratory health must be considered first. We recommend that an Ayurvedic doctor or experienced practitioner assess children and older clients before treatment so the preparation and dose can be adjusted accordingly.
