Panchakarma Detox – What is it? and Who is it for?
Panchakarma Detox is a therapeutic system that cleanses toxins that are already in your body and which are the underlying root of health imbalances and disease. This process removes waste matter in gentle and non-invasive ways, supporting and nourishing the system, preserving vital nutrients and promoting optimum health.
Prevention of Disease:
We usually think of detoxing as an afterthought, when your body is already out of balance, but it can also be used as a preventative measure. The science of Ayurveda focuses on prevention, treating the root of the imbalance in its early stages.
Panchakarma is highly recommended for anybody over 30. It is a healthy natural way to detox your body and avoid developing “ama”. Think of it as a car service; it can keep you in a tip-top condition much longer!
Treating Existing Imbalance:
But for the most part, Panchakarma is used to help with existing long-term chronic disturbance in body or mind, including chronic stress, insomnia, and other emotional and mental imbalances/trauma.
Panchakarma translates as “the five actions”. It is comprised of various treatments used in conjunction with one another to cleanse, detox, purify and rejuvenate the body establishing a robust mind-body-spirit connection – or “quantum healing”, the term used by Dr Deepak Chopra.
Panchakarma Detox is broken up into 3 stages:
Primary Treatment and
The pre-treatment stage of the detox, this helps to mobilise the toxins and moves them towards the intestines where the primary treatments take over and remove them.
The Primary treatment of the Panchakarma Detox, this removes the accumulated Ama (Toxins) from the body.
These are the post-treatment therapies which may include rejuvenating diets, herbs and treatments. This both support and enhance the efforts of the previous two stages.
Who should detox?
If you suffer from one or more of the following you could receive great benefit from our Panchakarma Therapy.
- Constant Fatigue
- Poor Digestion
- Skin Problems
- Allergies / Intolerances
- Heart Burn / Acid Reflux
- Headaches / Migraines
If you have any of these it may indicate you have an accumulation of toxins or ama within the body creating disharmony for your internal system.
Although the body is designed to detoxify naturally, when our system is compromised by poor diet, lifestyle choices, and environmental stressors it is unable to function efficiently and requires support in the process. This is where Panchakarma steps in, to rekindle your digestive fire Agni and to strengthen your immunity. Panchakarma is a healthy way to detox the body.
How do toxins form in the body?
Ama (Toxins) develop in the body from an accumulation of factors including environment, lifestyle, incorrect routine, lack of exercise, unsuitable food consumption and eating habits. When these forces are out of balance it begins to reflect in our internal environment. The problem that arises is that the body is inhibited and overloaded by a variety of toxins, the digestive fire or agni is not eliminating ama (toxins) and the toxic residue is left to linger in the body. These Ama usually start in the gut but are able to migrate around the entire body. Normally, your natural healthy tissues will remove those toxins which otherwise cause inflammation or swelling.
If not treated or looked after the body might stop paying attention to these toxins, which then develop into diseases and potentially autoimmune diseases and if your natural immune system is weak this could even lead to a non-regenerative or a degenerative condition.
Panchakarma is ideal for treating deep-seated Ama. It is a natural healthy way to detox and we provide this detox in Sydney at our Ayurvedic Wellness Centre.
