Marma Therapy – Body Energiser

1 hr
$225

Marma therapy is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment using skilled touch on specific vital points called Marma points. These are 107 areas where muscle and blood vessels meet ligaments, bones and joints. Ayurveda sees each point as a meeting place for prana, your vital life energy.

A Marma point therapy session begins with a short chat about your health and what you hope to feel. It’s followed by head, neck and shoulder massage, then continues with a full-body light oil treatment targeting your Marma points, the vital points throughout your body. Your therapist adjusts pressure to suit you, and the treatment should never feel painful.

How Marma therapy can help you:
  • Clients choose Marma therapy to unwind, support restful sleep and ease everyday muscle tension.
  • It can also provide relief from stress, headaches and neck or back discomfort.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Marma therapy different from acupressure or acupuncture?

The biggest difference is the tool. Acupuncture uses fine needles, while Marma point therapy relies on touch and often warm oil.

Acupuncture and acupressure come from Traditional Chinese Medicine and follow meridians that carry qi. Marma point therapy comes from Ayurveda and works with prana and the three doshas. Many Marma points are also larger zones measured in finger widths rather than pinpoint spots.

Abhyanga is a full-body warm oil massage, while Marma point therapy focuses on specific points. Abhyanga uses long flowing strokes to nourish your skin and relax your whole body.

Marma massage works more precisely, with your therapist holding or circling chosen points. The two pair beautifully, which is why many Ayurvedic therapists weave Marma work into an Abhyanga session.

Marma therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that adapts well for many people but does not suit every situation. Talk to us before booking if:

  • You are pregnant or trying to conceive.
  • You have a blood clot or deep vein thrombosis, or you take blood-thinning medication.
  • You have a fever, an infection or broken skin in the area to be treated.
  • You have had recent surgery, a fracture or a new injury.
  • You have uncontrolled blood pressure or are living with a significant medical condition.

Marma point therapy can complement medical care but never replaces it.

Yes, working safely with Marma points takes specific knowledge of Ayurvedic anatomy, point locations, indications and contraindications. Every therapist on our team holds professional qualifications and receives further training from our Ayurvedic doctors.

Ayurvedic practitioners and therapists here at the Ayurvedic Wellness Centre are also professional members of the Australasian Association of Ayurveda (AAA). AAA sets registration standards for Ayurveda practitioners in the country. You are welcome to ask us about your therapist’s background.

Have a light snack if you are hungry, but avoid a heavy meal in the two hours before your session. A full stomach can make lying down uncomfortable.

Wear loose clothing, arrive a few minutes early and drink some water. List your medications and health conditions so your therapist can tailor your Marma massage.

It depends on the style of session. For an oil-based Marma massage, you usually undress to your comfort level and keep your underwear on. A towel covers everything except the area being treated.

Prefer to stay clothed? Tell your therapist when you book. Some Marma techniques work through loose clothing without oil.

There is no fixed number, because everyone responds differently. Many people feel calmer after a single Marma massage session.

For ongoing tension or stiffness, practitioners often suggest a short series of weekly sessions. Your therapist can suggest a plan that fits your goals.

Yes, Marma massage can usually be combined with physiotherapy, chiropractic care or remedial massage. Let each practitioner know so they can plan pressure and timing around each other. If you follow a medical treatment plan, check with your doctor first.

Give yourself time to rest. We recommend leaving the oil on your skin for a little while, then showering with warm water rather than hot or cold.

Skip intense exercise for the rest of the day and choose a gentle walk instead. Avoid alcohol that day and sip warm water.

Reserve your session through our  Fresha page or by calling us at +61 410 315 465. When you book, share any health concerns or goals. Your therapist can then personalise your Marma point therapy session.
